The cultures listed above are what we currently have available for purchase. Please contact us for a complete list of cultures and associated metadata. If you are interested in any particular genera that you do or don’t see here, let us know. We will happily target those genera in future samples. We are also happy to work with research groups to target, collect, and start cultures of specific genera for various projects.

All of our cultures are xenic monocultures established from single cell isolations. Cultures are identified to the genus level via light microscopy. Species level taxonomies are assigned by sequencing of the D1-D3 fragment of the LSU rDNA. As ID’s are completed, they will be added here along with a Genbank reference #.

All benthic genera were isolated from water samples collected from around benthic substrates with a syringe. No living or geological substrates were collected.

We provide fixed cultures for microscopy lessons and live cultures for other classroom experiments. We will also provide you with optimized growth media for growing and maintaining your cultures.
